"A true Gloucester Rugby Club man who lived life with passion and heart"

Terry Short was a proud Gloucester Rugby Club man whose life revolved around family, community, and an unwavering passion for rugby.

He joined the Police Force on 21st September 1963, dedicating 21 years of service before retiring in 1984. His strength, commitment, and character defined both his professional and personal life.

Rugby was at the heart of everything Terry did. He played as a hooker for the police team and was known for stepping in whenever a team needed a player. Beyond playing, he was a devoted supporter of Gloucester Rugby, travelling across the UK and Europe to follow his team.

Even after becoming disabled following a workplace accident, Terry never lost his love for the game. From his place in the stadium—fondly known as the “mini shed”—he continued to cheer on Gloucester with passion and pride.

Terry was a man full of life, humour, and warmth. He loved conversation, friendship, and the simple joy of being part of the rugby community. He enjoyed cricket in his younger years, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

He always believed that Richard Tombs and Terry Fanolua were the greatest centre partnership Gloucester had ever seen, a reflection of his deep knowledge and love for the sport.

Above all, Terry will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, and a true Gloucester Rugby legend in spirit.

As the Aussie rugby player at Gloucester, I was a long way from home. Terry and Anne took me under their wing and hosted me to home-cooked meals.
Despite the slow spiral in Terry‘s health it did not restrict his passion for the club and the players. I genuinely enjoyed his and his family’s company and loved having them as my close knit friends and fans.
RIP Terry

Which legacy would they have wanted?
