It is with pride and admiration that we honour Mickey Booth, a true icon of Gloucester Rugby and a player whose influence on the game remains unforgettable.

Born just yards away from Kingsholm, Mickey’s journey in rugby began almost at his doorstep. From a young age, he showed exceptional intelligence on the field, growing into a scrum-half known for his sharp tactical mind, precise passing, and ability to control the flow of the game.

Mickey was not just a player — he was a strategist. His quick thinking, sniping runs, and perfectly judged kicks made him one of the finest scrum-halves of his generation. Many believed he deserved international recognition, a testament to the respect he commanded in the rugby world.

Throughout his career at Gloucester Rugby, he made an extraordinary 475 first-team appearances, leaving behind a legacy built on consistency, leadership, and excellence. His 41 drop goals remain a club record, highlighting his skill and composure under pressure.

Nicknamed “The General”, Mickey led with authority and intelligence. His partnership with Terry Hopson became one of the most admired combinations in club rugby, setting standards that few could match.

Beyond the club, he represented Gloucestershire and the RAF, proving his talent across every level he played. Whether leading his team or guiding play from behind the scrum, Mickey always brought passion, discipline, and vision to the game.
