Graham Spring

April 21, 1942 - March 22, 2021
Home Town: Gloucester

A devoted and passionate presence whose iconic voice resonated with generations of the Gloucester faithful for four decades.

Gloucester Rugby is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of former long-term stadium announcer, Graham Spring. Graham passed away this morning after a short-term illness.

Graham was a cherished member of the Gloucester Rugby team, and was the voice of Kingsholm for 40 years, before stepping back at the end of the 2017-18 season.

His first game on the mic was on 2 September 1978, when Broughton Park visited Kingsholm, and Graham’s devotion to the role meant that he incredibly only missed 9 games during his tenure.

Graham, fondly known as ‘Springy’ by the Gloucester faithful, was a popular character at Kingsholm amongst fans, players and staff alike.

Since his retirement from the role, Springy’s love for the Cherry & Whites remained just as strong. He continued to support the team as a Club Member in the Malvern Tyres Stand and was Gloucester Rugby through-and-through.

Alex Brown remembered Graham fondly, “Springy was a truly wonderful character and the life and soul of match day at Kingsholm for so many years.

“He brought so much energy and passion to every match day without fail, connecting players and fans alike.

“Graham will be fondly remembered by us all at Gloucester Rugby, and our deepest sympathies are with Graham’s wife Sylvia and his loved ones.”

Graham will be greatly missed by everybody at Gloucester Rugby. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Graham’s family and friends at this sad time.

A tribute will be made to Graham Spring at our match on Friday against Exeter Chiefs.

Thank you for everything, Graham.
